Friday March 1 at 7:00 pm – Poetry First Friday                      Ragged Edge Coffee House        

Award-winning poets Maya Pindyck and Taije Silverman will give a reading of their poetry on Friday evening, preceded by an open mic. Please bring a poem to share if you are so inclined, and make sure to sample some of the delicious coffee and baked goods on your way upstairs.  Details on the Ragged Edge Facebook page.

Friday March 1 from 5 – 7 pm – Adams County Arts Council First Friday Reception    ACAC Building

 This month’s artist reception features a collection of artworks by Links Community member artists in the Reception Hall, Foothills Artists in the Gallery, and paintings by Ophelia Chambliss in the Studio. Come enjoy the artwork of friends and neighbors in a wide range of mediums including watercolor, photography, mixed media, paper crafting, oils, acrylics and more.  Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.  These artworks will be on display for the entire month of March.    www.adamsarts.org     

March 1 at 7:30 pm / March 2 and 3 at 2 pm – Steel Magnolias       Kline Theatre – Gettysburg College

Penned by American writer Robert Harling, this play is a comedy-drama about the bond among a group of Southern women in northwest Louisiana. As the title suggests, the female characters are as delicate as magnolias but as tough as steel. Presented by students of Gettysburg College and directed by Guest Artist Catherine Blaine.   Admission is free. www.gettysburg.edu/klinetheatre

Monday March 4 at 12 and 7 pm – Great Art on Screen                                            Majestic Theater

This month brings The Immortals: The Wonders of the Museo Egizio, a journey among the most beautiful archaeological finds Egypt has left us. Jeremy Irons is the narrator and takes us inside the secret world of Egyptian mythology, religion and funerary culture through the artifacts found in this nearly 200- year-old museum in Turin, Italy. This is the most complete and valuable private collection of grave goods outside of Egypt.  Tickets are $18.                               www.gettysburgmajestic.org

March 8,9,15,16 at 7 and March 10 and 17 at 2 – The Glass Menagerie Gettysburg Community Theatre

This classic American play by Tennessee Williams premiered in 1944 and catapulted Williams from obscurity to fame.  It has strong autobiographical elements, featuring characters based on the author, his histrionic mother, and his mentally fragile sister.  Purchase tickets online for $22.  www.gettysburgcommunitytheatre.org

Saturday March 9 at 7:30 pm – The Kings of Queen                                                   Majestic Theater

Although the Kings of Queen was only established in 2021, the band has received a ton of attention and it is clear to all who have seen them perform live that the group is one of the very elite Queen tribute bands. Lead vocalist Emo Alaeddin’s vocal range and tone are unparalleled. Tickets range from $35-$50. www.gettysburgmajestic.org

Sunday March 10 at 4:00 pm – Teresa Bowers and Susan Hochmiller  United Lutheran Seminary Church

Music Gettysburg presents Teresa Bower, flute and Professor Susan Hochmiller, soprano for a delightful Sunday afternoon of chamber music accompanied by pianist, Scott Crowne. Admission is free with donations gratefully accepted and there is plenty of free parking.   www.musicgettysburg.org

Monday March 11 at 12 and 7 pm – NT Live: Vanya                                                   Majestic Theater

Andrew Scott (Fleabag) brings multiple characters to life in Simon Stephens’ radical new version of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya. Hopes, dreams, and regrets are thrust into sharp focus in this one-man adaptation which explores the complexities of human emotions and is presented by National Theatre Live in London.  Tickets are $18.   www.gettysburgmajestic.org

Thursday March 14 at 7:30 pm – The Red Hot Chili Pipers                                       Majestic Theater

Bagpipes with attitude. Drums with a Scottish accent. An internationally renowned ensemble consisting of pipers, guitarists, keyboards, and drummers who have been rocking the world from Beijing to New York and are finally making their return to Gettysburg. The website says the show is sold out, but maybe you can beg for tickets.  Tickets are $35 – $50.      www.gettysburgmajestic.org

Saturday March 23 at 8 pm – Gettysburg College Choir Spring Concert                 Christ Chapel

Enjoy the beautiful harmonies of the College Choir under the direction of Dr. Kyle Weary. Admission is $5 (cash only). www.gettysburg.edu/sunderman

Sunday March 24 at 4:00 pm – Felix Hell, Organ                             United Lutheran Seminary Church

Come and hear one of the most accomplished organists in the world, as Herr Hell performs on the mighty Andover organ during his annual visit to Gettysburg. Free and open to the public with plenty of free parking. www.musicgettysburg.org

Gail Jones has enjoyed a twenty-five-year career as a music educator in Pennsylvania and Maryland public schools as well as teaching music education methods at Gettysburg College for over a decade. She has also served as a guest conductor, French horn player, and private music instructor.

Gail has a deep appreciation for live music performances of all genres and encourages Adams County residents to attend the many concerts offered in our community.
