SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – For the first time in nearly two years, the Gettysburg College men’s cross country team competed in a collegiate race, opening its 2021 season under the lights at the Shippensburg University Galen Piper Invitational Friday night.

The Finish Line

  • The race marked the seventh year in a row that Gettysburg opened the season with a night meet.
  • The last time the Bullets competed in a collegiate race was back on November 18, 2019, at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional.
  • McKeever led the way for the Bullets, clocking 19:47.2 to claim ninth out of 118 competitors on the 6K course, while Elliott was next to cross the finish line for Gettysburg, taking 14th in 20:00.4.
  • Completing the team scoring for the Bullets were senior Luke Matzke (Collegeville, Pa./Malvern Prep), who placed 24th in 20:32.8, senior Will Hopkins (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton), who took 26th in 20:33.6, and senior Jack Kenyon (Centerpoint, N.Y./Harborfields), who was 58th in 21:15.7.
  • Finishing as displacers were Owen Crosby (Wilmington, Del./Newark Charter), who came in 63rd in 21:53.5, and freshman Greg Himstreet (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), who was 65th in 21:55.8.
  • Christopher Scharf from Dickinson won the race in 19:09.3.

Coming Up

The Bullets return to action next Friday when they take on Dickinson and Franklin & Marshall at the Little Three Meet, hosted by Dickinson.
