Meet Highlights

  • The 500 free was poised to be an epic showdown with five finalists qualifying under 4:40. Proxmire broke out to the early lead and maintained a steady pace with 50 splits below 28 seconds through 300 yards. Alec Menzer, the 2018 500 free champ, slowly reeled in the Gettysburg junior and surged in front with 100 yards to go. Menzer closed with a final 50 split of 26.32 to reclaim his crown and set a new pool record at 4:30.49. Proxmire dropped his personal record for the second time on the day and achieved a national qualifying time of 4:32.68 on the way to his second career individual silver medal. Junior Danny Petrillo (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) placed seventh in 4:43.83.
  • Edelson turned in Gettysburg’s top showing in the 200 IM, recording a new personal mark and posting the second-fastest time in program history at 1:53.61. He was just over two seconds off the pace set by champion Tom Graminski of F&M, who finished with a “B” cut time of 1:51.19. Sophomore Oliver Pickering (Millburn. N.J./Millburn) placed seventh at 1:57.13.
  • Gettysburg threw three swimmers into the finals of the 50 free in an effort to knock off defending champ Chris Schiavone. Schiavone defended his title with a pool record time and national cut of 19.99. Yancey followed with a new personal best of 20.52, which also lowered his own NCAA cut time. Swarthmore’s Alec Lawless recorded a “B” cut as well at 20.59. Nonemaker and junior Aedan Collins (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) finished fifth (21.28) and sixth (21.29), respectively. In the consolation final, senior Jeff Ragatz (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) shared the top spot alongside Ben Shoul from Dickinson with a mark of 21.62.
  • Cox set Gettysburg out in front to start the 400 medley relay as the first-year recorded the second-fastest 100 back time in program history (50.37). The Bullets maintained the advantage over F&M through the breaststroke and fly portions of the race, but the gap closed as the teams sent their final swimmers into the pool. Schiavone once again foiled the Bullets’ bid for gold, out-running Nonemaker with a 43.23 split as the Diplomats posted an NCAA qualifying time of 3:19.88. Gettysburg turned in the second-fastest time in program history at 3:21.86. The Orange and Blue also won the consolation final of the 400 medley relay with a mark of 3:27.83.
