Messiah’s NEXT Steps is designed for students with intellectual disabilities

Messiah University’s NEXT Steps is a transformative two-year residential certificate program tailored for students with intellectual disabilities. Designed for young adults aged 18–25 who have completed high school, the program provides a supportive environment for students to develop skills that foster independence, community integration, and career readiness.

Participants earn a Certificate in Career and Personal Development, with opportunities to specialize in a chosen area of concentration. Through a combination of coursework, campus involvement, and practical experiences, students build the skills and confidence needed for competitive employment and greater autonomy.

NEXT Steps is perfect for students who are motivated to pursue a postsecondary education, demonstrate emotional maturity, and possess communication skills to interact effectively with others. The program supports individuals who are eager to grow in their ability to navigate campus independently, care for their personal needs, and thrive in a dynamic community.

The benefits of NEXT Steps extend beyond academics. Students immerse themselves in campus life, creating lasting connections and experiencing personal growth while preparing for life’s next chapter.

Applications for Fall 2025 are now open. Join Messiah University’s vibrant campus and discover a program that redefines possibilities. For more information, contact Program Director Amber Brisbane at nextsteps@messiah.edu or 717-766-2511 ext. 7056.
