Town Hall Meeting Scheduled for Thursday

Gettysburg Borough councilmembers Wesley Heyser and Chris Berger will host a town hall meeting on Thursday May 8 at 7 p.m. at the Gettysburg Fire Department community room, 35 N. Stratton St., Gettysburg.

The meeting is an opportunity for members of the public to comment and ask questions about the issues facing the borough and its citizens.

An opportunity to meet the new Police Chief Rob Glenny will occur at 6:30 p.m.

 

2019 Barn Art Sale Announced

The Historic Gettysburg-Adams County Preservation Society has announced its 13th Annual Barn Art Show & Sale. The purpose of the show is to raise awareness and appreciation for these structures which have long been a vital part of Adams County’s history, culture and agricultural economy.

The show will run from Thursday, June 6 until Sunday, June 9 at the historic G.A.R. Hall, 53 E. Middle St., Gettysburg.

Artists of the community are invited to enter the show.

Photography and Fine Art Registration deadline is Saturday, June 1. Participating artists may submit up to three artworks each.

The Opening Night Reception will be on Thursday, June 6 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Better Angels Meet in Biglerville

In a meeting at the Biglerville library last week, political “Reds” and political “Blues” came together to discuss ways to bridge the political divide in the U.S. The meeting was the second in of the Better Angels program in the last year.

Advocacy Group Pushes for Drivers Licenses for All

The Movement of Immigrant Leaders in Pennsylvania (MILPA) came to Manos Unidas Hispanic American Center last week to push for a law that would give undocumented immigrants the opportunity to obtain a Pennsylvania driver’s license.

MILPA wants immigrants to be able to legally drive so they can get to work, school, and other places by car.

Some states already allow immigrants without social security numbers to secure licenses.

Gettysburg Council President Susan Naugle will be recognized by the Pennsylvania State Associations of Boroughs at their conference in Hershey for her decade of public service in Gettysburg.

Aging and Dementia Seminar Announced

The Visiting Angels of York, Hanover and Lancaster, Good News Consulting and Cross Keys Village have partnered to sponsor a free educational seminar.

The event will be held at Cross Keys Village, Nicarry Meetinghouse, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford on Friday, June 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

If you are a family member, friend, caregiver or friendly visitor of someone who suffers from dementia, plan to attend this seminar to learn how you can make a difference in their life and yours.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. Registration is required. For additional information or to reserve a seat, call 717-630-0067.

Relay for Life on May 11

The community is invited to the Adams County American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event on Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. until midnight at Oakside Community Park, 2880 Table Rock Road, Biglerville.

The event will host a vendor/craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the park with 27 vendors and crafters signed up to have items available for purchase.

There will be a barbershop quartet strolling the grounds, face painting and activities for youngsters, food trucks, and other activities.
