Eugene F. Pecher, 98, of Fairfield, PA, died peacefully at Concordia SpiriTrust in Gettysburg, PA, on Monday, August 24, 2026.
He was born on October 28, 1927, in Fairfield, PA, son of the late Jacob H. & Helen G. (Sanders) Pecher. Eugene was predeceased by his wife, Arlene C. (Staub) Pecher, in 2006. Additionally, he was predeceased by his brothers Paul, Henry, Alfonso, George, and Joseph Pecher, and his sisters Ann (Lochbaum), Mary (Hutinet), and Teresa (Rodgers). He is survived by his son Andrew W. Pecher, his wife Leigha, and two grandsons, Luke and Jacob, of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Along with too many to count nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1947. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for 23 years, traveling to all 50 states and 22 foreign countries. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force as a Tech Sergeant, he worked as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Orrtanna and Fairfield, PA for over 18 years. .
Eugene was a life member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fairfield, PA, and the Miraculous Medal of Mary Association. Over the course of his life, he served the church as a Sunday School Teacher and Eucharistic Minister. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus (4th degree Knight) and Men’s Club. He is a life member of the Fairfield Fire Company, Fairfield Lions Club, and AMVETS Post 172. For many years, he was Cub Master of Cub Scout Pack 76 and Assistant Scout Master of Troop 76 in Fairfield, PA. Additionally, he was involved for many years in the Adams County Office of the Aging Gettysburg Advisory Board, Fairfield Senior Center, Board of Directors of the Strawberry Hill Nature Center and Preserve, and President of the Fairfield Union Cemetery.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 28, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 256 Tract Road, Fairfield, PA, with Fr. Peter DiTomasso, Celebrant. Interment will follow the Mass in St. Mary’s Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Adams County Allied Veterans. A Viewing will take place at the church on Friday from 9:30-11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 256 Tract Road, Fairfield, PA 17320. The Monahan Funeral Home is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements. He was a kind man. I’ll miss hearing him sing “Jesus love’s me.” My deepest condolences to his family.
