Betsy was born on May 18, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland to Thomas James Laing, Sr and Shirley Frances Laing, nee Slaysman, both deceased. Betsys nicknamed was given by her paternal grandmother, Mary Katherine Laing, nee Dixon, from St. Thomas, Pennsylvania.
Betsy was raised on a small farm on a neck of the Chesapeake Bay along with her 5 younger siblings, Margret Harlow, nee Laing, Thomas James Laing, Jr, John Laing, Anne Jubb, nee Laing, and Bruce Laing. Betsy was the caring older sister as well as the pillar of her entire family. Betsys biggest love in life was her extended family including her siblings, children, grandchildren, cousins, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In her youth, Betsy attended the former Saint Mildreds Roman Catholic Church and Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. She graduated from Sparrow Point High School in 1960, and married Garry Thomas Yarrington, Sr. Betsy spent most of life in the scenic and agricultural town of Norrisville, Maryland, just south of the Mason-Dixon Line where she raised three children: Garry Thomas Yarrington, Jr. (deceased), Michael Landon Yarrington, daughter in-law Jeanette L. Yarrington nee Roberts, and Jodie Louise Yarrington. Betsy especially loved her four grandchildren, Tristan, Preston, Meghan and Carissa. Betsy was a longtime member of rural St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Pylesville, Maryland. Betsy loved living in the country enjoying gardening, antiquing, and crocheting. Betsy, like her father, was a voracious reader and excelled in her education endeavors in college study with honors. At one time Betsy and her sister were business owners of an antique & collectible store. Betsy also worked and supported her parents family business throughout her life.
Betsy later retired to a peaceful life among friends and family of the Seton Village at The National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
A graveside funeral will be held at the Mount St. Marys Cemetery, National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, 16330 Grotto Road Emmitsburg, MD 21727 on Monday, March 7, 2022 at 11 am.
