Janet Irene (Millhimes) Boyd entered into God’s eternal care on Thursday, August 13, 2026. She passed away at the age of 95 at Paramount Personal Care in Fayetteville, PA, where she was a resident for six years. Janet was born on February 12, 1931 to Edward and Mary Millhimes. She was married to Luther A. Boyd, who predeceased her in 2003, for 53 years. They were married July 22, 1950.

Many knew Janet when she worked at the Lamp Post Tea Room, where she worked for 25-plus years. It was there she also had the opportunity to meet so many, including President Eisenhower, Mamie Eisenhower and their family, Ronald Reagan, and many of you as well. Surely you remember the “blue dress” uniform. She actually held onto one of them all these years. She also worked at the Farnsworth House and the Tour Center before landing the job at the National Tower, where she worked for many years until the demolition.

Janet enjoyed playing cards, going to Bingo, and playing 777 in the PA Lottery every day. Her favorite pastime was going dancing every Saturday night with Luther until his passing. She was always “dressed to the hilt” when they were out. Janet truly enjoyed cooking, baking, and planting her flowers. Countless times, she helped family and friends when needed.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Donamae Boyd Hemmerly, Gettysburg; grandson, Matthew D. Hemmerly (Clair), Chicago, IL; step-grandchildren, Anthony K. Hemmerly (Hollie), Jacksonville, FL; and Melissa L. West (Jerome deceased 2021), Bunkie, LA; eight step-great-grandchildren, and eight step-great-great-grandchildren. Janet is also survived by her sister Helen Sneeringer and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Luther A. Boyd; her son, Ronald W. Boyd; son-in-law, Daniel L. Hemmerly; step-grandson, James L. Hemmerly; and step-great-grandson, Preston Hemmerly. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Mary Walters, Josephine Tawney, Betty Steinour, Harold Millhimes, James Millhimes, Russell Millhimes, and Ray Millhimes.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 24, 2026, at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA. There will be a visitation from 9:30 until the time of the service on Monday morning at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at the Evergreen Cemetery in the Veterans section.
