Proving there is always something interesting going on in this small town, October brings a wide variety of arts events to savor. Friday, October 6 is a triple-header offering a choice of comedy, poetry, or an organ recital by Gettysburg native John Wolfe. In the middle of the month is the once-in-a-lifetime 30th Anniversary Celebration of the movie Gettysburg, with a wide variety of programming. Interspersed with these choices are great choral music, theater, a French Film Festival, and film documentaries. Enjoy!

Memoir of War tells the story of a woman who is desperate for news of her husband, who has been arrested by the Germans. A writer and resistant, she enters a high-risk game of psychological cat and mouse with a Nazi collaborator. French with English subtitles. Monday October 2 at 12 and 7 pm – Great Art on Screen: Titian Majestic Theater
Titian: The Empire of Color tells the story of how he succeeded in becoming one of the artists that symbolized the entire Renaissance. He was able to win over both popes and emperors with his iconic, revolutionary works. Tickets are $18.
Friday October 6 at 7:00 pm – Poetry First Friday Ragged Edge Coffee House
A quartet of poets from Wilson College will be upstairs at the Ragged Edge this month to share their poems. Open mic begins at 7 for anyone interested in sharing their poetry followed by readings from Michael G. Cornelius, Mike Bloomford, Joshua Legg and Joy Merchant. Grab some delicious baked goods and coffee downstairs then climb the stairs for an evening of live poetry.

Friday October 6 at 7:30 pm – John Wolfe, Organist United Lutheran Seminary Chapel
Music Gettysburg presents Gettysburg’s own wunderkind for a solo performance on the Mighty Andover organ. Dr. John Wolfe will perform Baroque music from the 17th and 18th centuries, perfectly suited to this instrument’s unique capabilities. Free will donations are accepted and there is plenty of free parking.
Friday October 6 at 7:30 pm – Momfoolery Majestic Theater
These funny ladies bring laughter to audiences across the country as three moms come together to laugh about and celebrate the hardest job on the planet. Created by professional comedians – Karen Morgan, Nancy Witter, and Karen Bergreen – this clean comedy show was specifically created for theater and performing arts venues. Music Gettysburg presents this nationally recruited professional ensemble featuring 20 voices, 7 instrumentalists and narrator led by founder and Artistic Director Dr. Bruce Vantine. Cornerstone has raised thousands of dollars for charities in the US and Canada during their nearly 500 performances. Come and be “lifted up” by their beautiful music. Thursday October 19 at 7:00 pm – La Manplesa: An Uprising Remembered Majestic Theater
This documentary film is about the community response to the shooting of a Salvadoran man by the police in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Washington, DC in the 1990’s. There will be a screening of the documentary followed by a Q&A session. Sponsored by various departments at Gettysburg College. Gail Jones has enjoyed a twenty-five-year career as a music educator in Pennsylvania and Maryland public schools as well as teaching music education methods at Gettysburg College for over a decade. She has also served as a guest conductor, French horn player, and private music instructor.
Gail has a deep appreciation for live music performances of all genres and encourages Adams County residents to attend the many concerts offered in our community.
