High bidders at the Preview Auction on Thursday, December 5, will win the delightful creations entered in the Adams County Arts Council’s Gingerbread Celebration and Holiday Market. The Auction begins at 6 pm with heavy hors d’oeuvres, signature holiday cocktails, and entertainment. Auctioneer Randy Hilker will open the bidding at 6:30 pm. Winners may take the houses home after the weekend or the Arts Council will donate them and brighten the holidays for a local school, organization, or elder facility. Any houses remaining after the auction may be purchased online. That evening the winning raffle ticket will be drawn for a beautiful custom pendant donated by Scott & Co Fine Jewelers. Preview Auction reservations are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
The 15th Annual Gingerbread Celebration and Holiday Market is set for Dec 6-8 at the Arts Education Center and is sponsored by Kennie’s Market, Gettysburg Chocolate Market, and Mister Ed’s. It features a festive village of gingerbread houses designed by area bakers, hand-made gifts by area artisans, gift basket silent auction, children’s activities, and bake sale. Held in conjunction with the town-wide Gettysburg Christmas Festival, hours are noon to 7 pm on Fri, 10 am to 6 pm on Sat, and 10 am to 2 pm on Sun. The event is free for children, with a $1 donation requested for adults.

Created by Emily Harte and Petey Bender, a gingerbread version of the historic Meade School captured a prize at last year’s Adams County Arts Council’s Gingerbread Celebration and Holiday Market. This year’s event is scheduled for Dec 6-8 with a Preview Auction of gingerbread houses set for Thurs., Dec 5 at 6 pm.
Nov. 27 is the entry form deadline for houses. New awards have been added for the competition, which is open to all. The public and a panel of judges, another new addition, will select the winners of $1,600 in cash prizes. Entry forms, as well as Preview Auction reservations and Jewelry Raffle tickets, are available online at adamsarts.org, by calling (717) 334-5006, or at the Center, 125 S. Washington St., Gettysburg.

This is really a wonderful event throughout Gettysburg, as many businesses participate, and loads of visitors and locals come out to support all the festivities throughout the 3 days and beyond, for the holidays. It’s a don’t miss event for us every year.
