Qually supports Carr for Mayor

By Marty Qually, Former Borough Council member

The opinions in this letter do not reflect my elected position as a County Commissioner.  They reflect my personal opinions as a Gettysburg resident and former Borough Council member.

Chad-Alan Carr has my full and unwavering support for Mayor of Gettysburg.

Chad-Alan has proven that he works with tourism partners to bring visitors to Gettysburg through community events, he is a proven leader in our non-profit and art communities, he listens to the concerns of businesses and residents alike, and has proposed a new structure to borough government that will improve government efficiency and accountability.

Chad Alan is a candidate who can make Gettysburg better, and we deserve better. It is time for this town to extinguish the status quo and pass the torch to new leadership.  Times have changed and we need leaders with new ideas, who can look to the future success of Gettysburg.

Democrats have a choice in who will lead Gettysburg into the future. I encourage borough residents before you vote on May 20th to reach out to Rita and Chad Alan, share your concerns, listen to their answers, then vote for the most qualified candidate.  Make them explain their record and their proposals to make Gettysburg better.

While there is no Republican on the primary ballot, Republicans have received a letter from Rita Frealing, asking them to write her in. To be honest, I advised Chad Alan to do the same.  Winning both sides of the ballot is the fastest way to end the race. He refused. He was clear, he’s a Democrat, and that’s just the way it is. He wouldn’t capitalize on a flaw in the system to tip the scales in his favor. This means there is a chance there will be a second round to this race. At this point, part of me hopes that there is a second round, as this primary round has been full of baseless accusations, misinformation, and conspiracy theories about back-room deals.

As it stands I expect Rita to win the Republican Primary.  Please join me in voting for Chad-Alan, so that we can continue to discuss how to move Gettysburg forward.  And I am not Chad-Alan, so I do encourage Republicans to write in Chad-Alan Carr for Mayor.  He will represent all of us.
