Request free native tree and shrub seedlings through Adams County Planting Partnership beginning Feb. 27

The Adams County Planting Partnership—an initiative of the Adams County Conservation District and the Watershed Alliance of Adams County—has partnered with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Keystone 10 Million Trees Partnership to distribute more than 10,000 free native tree and shrub seedlings this spring to Adams County residents who request them.

More than 25 species of native tree and shrub seedlings will be available to request while supplies last. The online form for requesting free seedlings will open Monday, Feb. 27; the deadline for ordering seedlings is Friday, March 24.

The seedlings will be available for pickup at the Adams County Agricultural and Natural Resources Center, 670 Old Harrisburg Rd., Gettysburg, on Friday, April 21 and on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22. Also on April 22, the Adams County Planting Partnership will host seedling-planting demonstrations, educational exhibits, and more in observance of Earth Day.

The tree and shrub seedlings will be up to approximately three feet tall and will arrive potted in 3-inch x 3-inch x 9-inch pots. A shelter, planting stake, zip-ties and bird-netting will be supplied with most trees and shrubs.

Adams County residents may place their requests online beginning Feb. 27 by visiting the Watershed Alliance website at AdamsWatersheds.org or the Adams County Conservation District’s website at AdamsCountyPA.gov/Departments/ConservationDistrict/TreeSeedling.

To be placed on an email list to receive news and updates about the seedling distribution, email jhallinan@adamscountypa.gov.

The seedlings, once planted, will grow into trees and shrubs that capture stormwater runoff that can pollute streams and drinking water, as well as remove carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Watershed Alliance of Adams County is dedicated to enhancing and protecting the water resources of Adams County. For more information about the Watershed Alliance, visit AdamsWatersheds.org.

The Adams County Conservation District works to promote voluntary conservation and good stewardship of Adams County’s natural resources. For more information about the Adams County Conservation District, visit AdamsCountyPA.gov/Departments/ConservationDistrict.

The Adams County Planting Partnership is a collaboration of the Adams County Conservation District, the Watershed Alliance of Adams County, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s 10 Million Trees Partnership, and the residents of Adams County. Its mission is to inspire Adams County residents to plant native trees as part of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s goal to plant 10 million trees within the Chesapeake Bay watershed by 2025.
