Slideshow: Gettysburg Rec Park brings back the ’90s with Community Block Party

Gettysburg Recreation Park became a nostalgic celebration of the 1990s on Saturday as community members gathered for a free, family-friendly block party.

The event drew visitors of all ages for an afternoon of music, food, activities, vendors, and entertainment. ’90s hits played throughout the park, and Blind Mike performed live music at the amphitheater.

One of the most popular attractions was the Gettysburg Reptile Expo, where children and families had the opportunity to see, touch, and learn about a variety of reptiles. The hands-on exhibit quickly became a favorite among young attendees.

Families also enjoyed a parkour course provided by Gettysburg’s Best, water balloon fights, and 1990s-themed loot bags for children to take home.

Local businesses, vendors, and community partners took part in the event, including Kiara’s Grace Medical, which shared information about services available in the community. Massage therapist Benjamin was also on hand.

The block party gave neighbors a chance to gather and enjoy a free meal that included drinks, pasta salad, and hot dogs. Attendees and volunteers were encouraged to dress in 1990s-themed clothing, with some wearing parachute pants, neon tops, belt bags, and other throwback styles.

The scheduled 7 p.m. showing of the film The Sandlot was canceled because of rain. Organizer Stephanie Auer and others said they are looking forward to another community block party next year.

  • We are absolutely amazed at the miracles that Stephanie Auer and her team have been performing since she first started the free community dinners last fall. What a wonderful way to give back to the community!
