On behalf of Bicycle South Central PA (BSCPA), Gettysburg resident and long-time cyclist Tom Jolin was honored last week with the 2023 Bicycle Champion Award.
The presentation was made by former BSCPA President Marilyn Chastek at the January meeting of Healthy Adams Bicycle/Pedestrian, Inc. (HABPI), held in the Sterner Building at the Gettysburg Rec Park.

The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to cycling within the region.
After co-founding HABPI in 2005 with the goal of developing biking and walking trails and promoting safe cycling, Jolin served on the HABPI board of directors until 2022. He was the driving force behind the development of the Gettysburg Inner Loop trail system, a biking and walking path that, when completed, will encircle the borough.
Jolin’s hard work helped secure millions of dollars in grant funding for the trail, which includes two flashing light road crossings and the first bike/pedestrian bridge in the borough.
Jolin was a principal organizer and promoter of the Kids’ Bike Parade, a feature of the annual Adams County Heritage Festival. He has also been an advocate for safe biking infrastructure while serving on numerous municipal boards, councils, and government departments within Adams County.
BSCPA is a regional bicycle advocacy organization with the goal of making communities in South Central Pennsylvania more bicycle friendly. Marilyn Chastek ended her tenure as president of BSCPA at the end of 2023.
