Wellspan Health says it hopes to reopen the Gettysburg Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop at a new location in Gettysburg.
The shop, which has been a gathering place for Gettysburg Hospital Auxiliary volunteers and community shoppers since the 1920s, is closing on Aug. 31 because its rent has increased substantially.
Wellspan said the thrift store’s services will be paused as their real estate team continues to explore rental properties on the market to identify potential options.
According to Wellspan, as of now there have not been any locations identified that would fall within their budget.
Wellspan said a location in Gettysburg Borough would be ideal as it provides walking access to those most in need and to college students who often take advantage of the offerings.
