Gettysburgโs Hidden Histories: Lecture Series Honors Americaโs 250th Anniversary
GETTYSBURG, PA โ In celebration of Americaโs 250th anniversary, For The Cause Productions invites the public to a compelling three-part lecture series held at the Gettysburg Battlefield Overlook Room. Hosted by local historian Deb McCauslin, these programs will shine a light on three pivotal figures in Adams County history: Mary Jemison, George Washington Sandoe, and Kitty Payne.
Designed to pass along the legacy of these extraordinary stories, the series aims to inspire a new generation of tour guides, artists, and historians. All programs are free of charge and will be held at 625 Biglerville Road, Gettysburg, PA.
Event Schedule:
โข Monday, April 13, 2026: The Life of Mary Jemison๏ฟฝCaptured in Adams County in 1758, Mary Jemisonโs story is a unique saga of survival and cultural identity. This program explores her life and her descendants’ later connection to the Carlisle Indian Industrial School.
โข Tuesday, June 23, 2026: George Washington Sandoe โ The First to Fall๏ฟฝKilled on June 26, 1863, at just 20 years old, Sandoe was the first soldier killed at Gettysburg. Learn about his final days through the lens of local diaries and the accounts of cavalry leader Robert Bell.
โข Thursday, July 23, 2026: The Kidnapping of Kitty Payne๏ฟฝKidnapped from Bendersvilleโs Bear Mountain, Kitty Payneโs tragic story highlights the terrifying frequency of kidnappings in Adams County prior to the Civil War.

โข Time: Doors open at 6:10 PM. Programs begin at 6:30 PM and conclude by 7:30 PM.
โข Capacity: Limited to 200 seats per session.
โข Attendance: Recommended for adults and children ages 12 and up.
โOur goal is to ensure these legacies are never forgotten,โ says presenter Deb McCauslin. โWe hope to empower future storytellers to keep the history of 1758, 1845, and 1863 alive through art, song, and education.โ

On Sunday, April 12 at 4 PM, Music, Gettysburg! will welcome two world-famous musicians to the chapel of ULS. The NY Times praised cellist Amit Peled’s “glowing tone” and the Strad called him fiery and intelligent. And the Strad described pianist Martin Labazevitch “exuberant, multi-faceted, …gripping from first note to the last.” They will perform works by Beethoven and Chopin, as well as “Bestemming,” a gripping, moving meditation on the Holocaust. Like all Music, Gettysburg! concerts, this will be free and open to all.

Childrenโs Easter Egg Hunt
Saturday, April 26 at 2:00 pm
Ages: 5th grade and younger
We invite all of our children ages 5th grade and under to meet at Xavier Center to participate in an Easter Egg Hunt! Children will be divided into age groups for the hunt. In case of bad weather, the hunt will take place inside Xavier Center. Youth in grades 6-12 who help with this egg hunt will be granted a “head start” in their egg hunt at 8pm!

Ages: 6thโ12th grades
Youth in grades 6โ12 are invited to a night-time โflashlightโ hunt! Plastic eggs will be hidden throughout the campus for an evening filled with fun! Bring a flashlight! Bring a friend! Permission slips are required for the Youth Egg Hunt only. In case of bad weather, we will be inside with the lights off!
Easter Egg Hunts are rain or shine.

๐จ GHS Celebrate Our Student Artists on Thursday ๐จ
Join us this Thursday, March 12 for the GAMS Art Show, featuring nearly 200 student artworks created so far this school year.
The exhibit will be open before, during, and after the Seventh and Eighth Grade Spring Concert from 6 to 8 p.m., located just outside the GAMS Auditorium. As a wonderful bonus to the evening, enjoy the spring concert beginning at 7 p.m.
Come explore the creativity and talent of our seventh and eighth grade Warriors through a variety of mediums, including painting, drawing, collage, weaving, digital art, printmaking, clay, cardboard, and plaster sculptures.
