Red Is Not a Mandate

When I was in 4-H Beef Club, grabbing a blue ribbon during the county fair meant “Samson” and I scored first place. A red ribbon meant second place.

President Trump scored a red ribbon during the 2024 election but is acting like he deserved the blue. Trump captured second place with support from roughly 32 percent of eligible voters (U.S. News and World Report). Kamala Harris came in third with roughly 30 percent of eligible voters. Roughly 1 percent of eligible voters supported “other.”

The blue ribbon goes to 37 percent of eligible voters who never showed up. Congratulations to 90 million disinterested, low-information slugs!

True to character (or lack thereof), and despite roughly seven in ten eligible voters not choosing him, King Trump is ramming forward a misguided “mandate” to implement the radical right’s Project 2025, exact revenge for legal investigations, and deport “illegal” immigrants and refugees.

The voters want the border secured in a humane manner, and they want the cost of living to come down. Unfortunately, they are getting a whole lot more than they signed up for.

The bad things headed our way include more tax cuts for the rich and large corporations and an outsized influence over public policy from American oligarchs (think “Vice President” Elon Musk). We now have a transactional president who will once again trade away national secrets, hike the cost of living and enrich himself and his friends.

This election told us nothing more about Trump but told us a ton about the American voter. A significant portion of voters will sacrifice democracy for the promise of not having to share even a bit more power with women and minorities. They would rather accommodate a twice-impeached pathological liar who preaches freedom but doesn’t believe in it.

Trump is the most prolific liar ever to hold high office AND the most honest person to ever become president. He doesn’t lie about who he is or what he plans to do. He only lies about those who oppose him and the results of his actions: chaos, loss of freedom, and more pressure on the middle class and the poor.

I give Trump a blue ribbon for telling us what he plans to do. I give him last place for the results. The same to those who refuse to stand up to tyrannical actions no one signed up for.

Thank you duane for speaking out, I fear we are in for lots more arrogant, vengeful, unprofessional behavior which will eventually ripple down to higher costs for everything, and primarily affecting the lower middle classes of our society. What has happened to us?
