Staff members
Mark Purdy, Managing Editor, has lived in Gettysburg for over 50 years. He worked for 20-plus years for ACNB Bank. He also works with Road Scholar International's Gettysburg programs and has managed the Gettysburg Beer Runners since 2013. Mark has also worked in radio, newspaper, and public relations.

Amy Thomas, Contributing Editor, is responsible for community outreach, including our social media presence. She, her husband, and her two children reside in Adams County. Amy also works in occupational therapy and volunteers with local organizations.
Freelancers
Tom Dudra is a local music nerd and civil war bore. He writes about local music, as well as essays and fiction about the civil war era. He is often found on the battlefield with Grant, his vicious basset war hound.

Donate Gardner is a freelance writer and journalist who came to Gettysburg from Montgomery County, Maryland. A former linguist-turned-legal professional, Donate recently retired from the corporate world and is eager to support her new community in a variety of ways. She currently serves as the news communicator for the Adams County migrant outreach program, Pasa La Voz.
As an immigrant born, raised, and educated in Western Europe, Donate maintains a strong connection to various other cultures and languages, both as a writer and advocate. Donate is an active musician, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. She and her husband have two daughters and three grandchildren.
Lisa Gregory is an experienced journalist whose articles have appeared in publications nationally and internationally including the Washington Post and U.S. News and World Report. She is also a frequent contributor to Frederick Magazine, Hagerstown Magazine and Carroll Magazine, among others. A published author of fiction, she has short stories in the books, “For the Love of Gettysburg” and “On Hallowed Ground.”
Alex J. Hayes has spent almost two decades in the Adams County news business. He is passionate about sharing stories focused on the people in our communities and following local governments in an age when few journalists report on their meetings. Mary Grace Kauffman, freelance reporter, worked six years as a full-time reporter for newspapers in Pennsylvania and Maryland. She has covered topics including business, crime, education, government and features. Mary Grace has a bachelor's degree in communication/journalism from Shippensburg University. She resides in Adams County.
Leon Reed, freelance reporter, is a former US Senate staff member, defense consultant, and history teacher. He is a 10 year resident of Gettysburg, where he writes military history and explores the park and the Adams County countryside. He is the publisher at Little Falls Books, chaired the Adams County 2020 Census Complete Count Committee and is on the board of SCCAP. He and his wife, Lois, have 3 children, 3 cats, and 5 grandchildren.
Catalina Righter, freelance reporter, lives in New Oxford. She previously wrote for the Carroll County Times and the Kent County News, covering crime, education, local government and arts. She works as a legal assistant.
Imari Scarbrough is a freelance journalist. She was a staff newspaper reporter for five years before becoming a freelancer in 2017. She has written on crime, environmental issues, severe weather events, local and regional government and more.

Interns
Ariana Blume-Kohout, intern, is a junior at Gettysburg Area High School and has lived in Gettysburg for five years. She has enjoyed expository and opinion writing since middle school and has photographed high school and college sporting events as a member of the high school's Photography Club since freshman year.
Hannah Campbell, intern, is a senior in high school and has lived in Gettysburg for 10 years. She enjoys writing fictional stories and historical research papers and is thrilled to be able to write for Gettysburg Connection.
Izabella "Bella" Cosden is a dedicated senior at Gettysburg Area High School, actively involved in her community and passionate about journalism. She began her journey in journalism as a staff writer and layout editor for the Maroon and White newspaper during her freshman year. Last year, Bella took on the role of editor-in-chief, supervising staff writers and honing her skills in editing and writing. In her final year of high school, she serves as the photo editor for the yearbook and leads the prom and community service committees for student council. Additionally, she is the photography chair for the National Apple Harvest and a proud member of the FFA, all while being the varsity goalie for the field hockey team. Bella enjoys writing about local events and sports, always eager to learn more about her hometown. After graduation, she plans to attend Sweet Briar College, where she will major in Education and Art.
Sophia Dotterweich, intern, is in her second year at Gettysburg College, where she studies History and Public Policy and is involved with Amnesty International, Student Senate, and WZBT College Radio. She aspires to attend law school and hopes to become a youth advocacy attorney.
Elise Fox, intern, is a student-athlete at Gettysburg College majoring in Business, Organizations, & Management and minoring in Data Science and Cinema & Media Studies
Abigail Hallagan, intern, is a senior at Gettysburg College from Plainville, Massachusetts. She is a Psychology major with a writing minor. Outside of school, she is the Program Coordinator for Psi Chi (the Psychology National Honor Society), a Global Leader at Gettysburg College, and has written articles for Gettysburg College’s Newspaper, "The Gettysburgian."
Elizabeth Li, intern, is a senior at Gettysburg College and an Environmental Studies and Classics major. She is from East Lyme Connecticut. Outside of class, Elizabeth is a member of the DEIJB Environmental Studies Board and a member of the Sunderman Conservatory Orchestra.
Savannah Waligore, Gettysburg Connection Intern, has lived in Gettysburg for the last five years. She am a high school junior at GHS and is on Student Council, in the Photography Club, and a part of our school paper, the "Maroon and White."
